Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs.
Cats are at the centre of everything we do and our objectives are: homing, neutering and educating people about cats and their care.
We help thousands of cats across the UK each year thanks to our network of dedicated volunteers, staff and supporters.
Our vision for volunteering
Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.
The difference you will make to cats and people
Our centres and branches take excellent care of cats and kittens that need help, but life in a rescue environment is not ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Until we can find them that loving home our cat care volunteers are a passionate, committed team, helping to give cats and kittens the best possible care. Cat care volunteers spend time directly with cats, cleaning their pens, feeding, grooming and enriching their play time.
You will volunteer with others in this role and be part of a multi-pen site or centre team. If you think this is something you would like to do in your own home, please search and apply for the ‘Fosterer volunteer’ role on our website.
You can expect us to
- Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
- Support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
- Cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
- Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities
A bit more information about this role and the team
Our Cat Care Volunteers commit to weekly attendance, arriving at 8.30am and staying for between 2 – 5 hours. The first couple of hours are spent helping the team to give our cat pens their daily cleans and then cleaning the equipment used and utility areas/corridors. Once the cleaning is finished our team take break together and then volunteers can spend time with our cats which will benefit most from the interaction.
We have Cat Care volunteer opportunities available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The Devon Cat Centre is off the Sidmouth Road between West Point and Crealy. It can be tricky to get to us on public transport, so please consider this before applying.
Please note, we can currently only take volunteers who are over 18. We might have spaces available for Young Volunteers in future, please email exeter.volunteering@cats.org.uk to be added to the waiting list.
