The difference you will make to cats and people
Whilst we do everything we can to find new and loving homes for the cats in our care, it is a reality that our cats will have to spend some time in a rescue environment. Our ‘green fingers’ volunteers use their passion for the outdoors to help make our Cats Protection sites welcoming and enjoyable places for cats, people and wildlife. Cats are more likely to be rehomed if they are content in their environment, and members of the public are more likely to visit their local Cats Protection site if it is an enjoyable place to be.

A bit more information about this role and the team
Gardening
At the Centre, we have a contractor for the 'big jobs' such as cutting grass and large hedge cutting.
However, we are always in need of volunteers to help with weeding, planting and preparing pots of plants for fundraising.
Having someone dedicated to managing our garden space all year round will help keep our environment tidy, healthy and attractive to visitors and the cats in our care. The role is flexible depending on the time of year.
We would also welcome ideas for sustainability and wildlife, along with any general gardening advice!

Odd Jobs!
You might also be someone who could undertake some basic DIY such as painting, changing light bulbs, minor fixes to buildings and cat pens, checking fire and smoke alarms, adding latches, basic maintenance of our vehicles, and any other basic jobs that arise!
Time Expectation
Our gardening and DIY volunteers usually spend 1 to 2 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
We can provide all necessary equipment, we just need your enthusiasm, expertise and knowledge!
What we need from you
You’ll be:
- Cutting grass and hedges
- Weeding, planting and preparing pots
- Using tools, gardening equipment and machinery
- Managing our green spaces all year round
Time expectation
Our ‘green fingers’ volunteers usually spend 2 to 8 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. The hours required might vary between sites, and during different seasons.
